Set within a 7-hectare mixed-use masterplan on the Asian side of Istanbul, the Çubuklu development responds sensitively to its remarkable environmental setting. Located within a valley that once served as an Ottoman reservoir, the project embraces a unique relationship with water, landscape, and sustainable urban design.

Water is the defining feature of the site. Fed by pristine natural sources and underlain by a valuable aquifer, the development is designed to protect and celebrate this vital resource. Flowing water is integrated throughout the masterplan, weaving between buildings through a series of landscaped channels, pools, and public spaces that create a distinctive sense of place while enhancing biodiversity and environmental performance.

The architecture is arranged around a network of interconnected south-facing courtyards that maximise daylight, solar gain, and views of the surrounding forest landscape. This bioclimatic design approach strengthens the connection between people and nature while improving energy efficiency and occupant wellbeing.

Passive environmental design principles are embedded throughout the scheme. Building orientation harnesses natural sunlight for heating and illumination, while carefully designed shading strategies, high-performance insulation, and natural cooling measures mitigate summer overheating, reducing operational energy demand and supporting a low-carbon future.
